Before the Ancher family moved into The Garden House in 1880, this room was Brøndum's grocery store. Michael Ancher installed his studio here and had the large window above the door installed, so that the inflow of light in the tall room would be improved. Michael Ancher comtinued to use the studio after the family moved to the house on Markvej in 1884. Later, Anna and Michael Ancher's daughter, Helga Ancher, also frequently used the studio and it was not untill the beginning of 1956 that the entire house was opened to the public.
