Christian Krohg and Skagen
Skagens Museum puts focus on the Norwegian painter Christian Krohg’s (1852-1925) works from Skagen.
Krohg came to Skagen for the first time in the summer of 1879 and visited it several times during the course of the 1880s. The meeting with Skagen, its inhabitants, and the other painters at the artists’ colony had a significant influence on Krohg’s artistic development. The exhibition includes many of the works Krohg painted depicting the everyday life of the fishing family Gaihede. The portrayal of the local inhabitants in Skagen was a source of great enthusiasm among the art critics of that time and opened up for Krohg’s artistic breakthrough.
The exhibition consists of approximately 40 works, and is the largest ever presentation of Krohg’s Skagen paintings.
