This book about the Skagen painters tells the story of the artists’ colony that flourished and developed in Skagen in the decades around the year 1900. It offers an introduction to the individual artists and a selection of their works, their circumstances and breakthroughs, their travels and sources of inspiration, their development, fellowship and enormous artistic talent.  The book also focuses on Skagen and Skagens Museum, which was founded in 1908 with the purpose of preserving the Skagen painters’ works in the surroundings where they were created. The last part of the book is about Brøndum’s dining room, the Garden House in the museum’s garden and the old grain-drying warehouse, which served as P. S. Krøyer’s studio for a number of
years.
